We're happy to let the community know that an exciting and well-received local project, the Think Local First Community Coupon Book, is back and better than ever for 2010.
If you lived in or visited Fernie during 2007 you might remember seeing a small, square little booklet bound with a mini "Think Local First" carabineer. The intent of this little coupon book was to benefit local companies by promoting the incredible variety of products and services that Fernie businesses offer. At the same time, the book provided savings to shoppers and increased awareness about the opportunity everyone has to vote with our dollar by choosing to spend money locally within our community.
ALL was encouraged by the response to the 2007 book and by the fact that all 500 copies sold out! In 2008, we took the time to get feedback from participating businesses on the project's strengths and weaknesses. We were pleased to be able to launch our 2009 edition in time for holiday shopping on Nov. 22nd, 2008 at the Community Christmas Craft Fair. In addition to being sold at local 56 participating businesses, we were happy to be able to offer the books as a fundraising opportunity to school and community groups.
The third and most recent 2010 edition of the coupon book officially launched at our celebration for participating businesses on the evening of December 7th, 2009. New and improved features for this year include 5 colour-coded sections (Teal = Activities and Accommodations, Blue = Food and Drink, Yellow = Retail, Orange = Services and Green = Health and Wellness) and a corresponding alphabetically organized index. Coupons are valid from January 1, 2010 - Dec. 31, 2010 and feature offers from 68 businesses that could save you up to $3000. Coupon books are available now for just $15 at the Fernie Arts Co-op, Polar Peek Books and Heaven Stitch & Design and at many of the participating businesses.
If you're interested in participating in the project (i.e. selling the book as a business or community group) please contact us today at thinklocalfirst@fernie.com Watch here for more details, and watch out for the many posters around town indicating where you can purchase your copy.
